Viega 26111 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does P x FTG mean on the Viega MegaPressG 26111 45 degree elbow?
The 26111 is a street elbow: one end is a press socket (P) that accepts 1 inch pipe, and the other end is fitting-end (FTG) sized to slide directly into the press socket of another 1 inch MegaPress fitting. That lets you make a 45 degree turn without an extra length of pipe between two fittings.
2) Will the Viega 26111 press onto 1 inch black iron pipe I already have in place?
Yes. The press end is sized for 1 inch carbon steel pipe, so it goes onto existing 1 inch black iron with no threading and no welding. The pipe end has to be cut square, deburred and clean, and you need a press tool with the matching MegaPress jaw or ring for 1 inch.
3) What is Smart Connect on this Viega MegaPressG fitting?
Smart Connect is Viega's unpressed-joint feature. The sealing element is shaped so an unpressed fitting leaks deliberately during pressure testing, which is how you find a connection the installer missed before the line goes into service. It is built into the 26111 elbow.
4) How much room does the Viega 26111 45 degree elbow take up in a tight chase?
Published dimensions are 4.409 inches long, 3.094 inches wide and 1.78 inches high, at 0.677 lbs. Worth checking against your chase or joist bay, since press fittings also need clearance around the socket for the tool jaw to close fully.
