Viega 25241 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size pipe does the Viega MegaPressG 25241 45 degree elbow fit?
The 25241 is a 1 inch by 1 inch elbow, so it presses onto 1 inch carbon steel pipe on both ends. Both openings are press connections (P1 x P2), meaning there is no threaded or grooved end on this fitting, both sides get crimped with a press tool.
2) Is the Viega 25241 elbow a threaded fitting or a press fitting?
Press on both ends. The connection type is P1 x P2, press by press, so you need a press tool and the correct 1 inch jaw. There are no threads to cut and no soldering, which is the point of MegaPressG on carbon steel pipe.
3) What material is the Viega MegaPressG 45 degree elbow made of, and can I use it on galvanized or black iron pipe?
It's carbon steel, which is what MegaPressG fittings are built for: black iron and carbon steel pipe systems. Matching the fitting material to the pipe material avoids the galvanic issues you get mixing dissimilar metals in a run.
4) What is Smart Connect on the Viega 25241 elbow and why does it matter on a job?
Smart Connect is Viega's unpressed-connection feature: a fitting that hasn't been pressed will leak visibly during pressure test, so you find the miss before the wall closes up. On a long run of 1 inch pipe with dozens of joints, that's the difference between a quick test and chasing a hidden leak later.
5) How much room does the Viega 25241 45 degree elbow take up in a tight chase?
Overall it measures 4.386 by 3.071 by 1.78 inches and weighs 0.655 lbs. Worth checking against your chase or joist bay before you commit to an offset, since a 45 gets used precisely where a 90 won't clear.
6) Should I use a 45 degree elbow or two 90s for an offset in 1 inch carbon steel pipe?
A pair of 45s like the 25241 gives you a gentler offset with less pressure drop and fewer turns than stacking 90s, and it's the standard way to jog around an obstruction while keeping the run close to the structure. Use 90s when you need a hard change of direction at a wall or a drop.
7) Where is the Viega 25241 MegaPressG elbow manufactured?
Made in Germany. That matters for submittal packages and procurement specs that require country of origin documentation.
