Viega 26126 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Viega 26126 rated for gas, or is it only for water lines?
MegaPressG is Viega's gas-rated press line, and the 26126 is a MegaPressG 45 degree street elbow in carbon steel. It is intended for black iron style gas piping systems rather than potable water, which is served by copper or stainless press lines. Carbon steel is the body material here, so it is not a potable water fitting.
2) How much room does a 2 inch 45 degree street elbow need in the joist bay?
The 26126 measures 6.622 inches in length, 4.78 inches in width and 2.894 inches in height, and weighs 2.094 lbs. Allow for those overall dimensions plus clearance for the press ring and actuator to swing around the socket, which is usually the limiting factor in a tight bay rather than the fitting itself.
3) What is Smart Connect technology on this Viega press elbow?
Smart Connect is the feature Viega builds into the sealing element so an unpressed connection leaks visibly during pressure testing instead of passing inspection and failing later. On a 2 inch gas line that is the difference between finding a missed press on the test and finding it after the wall closes. The 26126 includes it on the press end.
