2) Will this press elbow work on my existing black iron gas line?
Yes, if the line is 2 inch carbon steel pipe. The 26076 is a carbon steel MegaPressG fitting, so it presses directly onto 2 inch black steel pipe with no threading and no welding. It will not work on copper, PEX, or stainless tube.
3) What is Smart Connect technology on this Viega fitting?
Smart Connect is the feature built into the sealing element of the 26076 MegaPressG elbow: an unpressed connection deliberately leaks during pressure testing so the installer can find the joint that was missed before the system is put in service. It is a verification aid, not a sealing method on its own.
4) Do I need a street elbow or a standard press x press 90?
Use the 26076 street elbow when the turn lands directly at another fitting: its FTG end slips into that fitting's socket, saving you a coupling and a length of pipe. If the 90 falls in the middle of a pipe run with pipe on both sides, you want a press x press elbow instead, since a street end cannot receive pipe.
