Viega 26635 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) I need a 4 inch branch, not 3/4 inch. Is this the right tee?
No. The 26635 reduces to a 3/4 inch female threaded branch, so it only works where you are taking a small threaded takeoff (gauge, drain, sensor, small drop) off a 4 inch run. A full-size 4 x 4 x 4 press tee is a different fitting.
2) Is a carbon steel press tee suitable for potable water?
Carbon steel fittings like the 26635 are for non-potable service, gas, hydronic heating, compressed air and fire protection type black pipe systems, not domestic drinking water. For potable lines you want copper or stainless press, not carbon steel.
3) What does Smart Connect technology on a Viega MegaPress fitting actually do for me?
Smart Connect is a feature of the sealing element that lets an unpressed connection leak intentionally during pressure testing, so you can find a joint you missed before the system is buried or covered. On a 4 inch main that matters, because a missed press on a line that size is an expensive find later.
