Viega 26675 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe size does the Viega MegaPress 26675 coupling fit?
The Viega MegaPress 26675 is a 3 inch by 3 inch press coupling, so both ends press onto 3 inch pipe. It is a press-to-press fitting (P1 x P2), meaning there is no threaded or grooved end on it at all.
2) Is the MegaPress 26675 a coupling with a stop or a stop-less slip coupling?
It is a coupling with a stop. The internal shoulder sets insertion depth on both ends, so you butt the pipe to the stop and press. If you need to repair a run in place where the pipe cannot be sprung apart, a coupling with a stop is the wrong choice because it will not slide over an existing joint, you need a stop-less (slip) coupling for that.
3) What material is the Viega 26675 coupling and what piping is it meant for?
Carbon steel construction, made to press onto black iron and carbon steel pipe rather than copper. Carbon steel press fittings are not for potable water service, they are used on gas, hydronic heating, compressed air and similar black-pipe systems where a copper or bronze fitting would not match the pipe material.
4) What does Smart Connect technology do on a MegaPress fitting?
Smart Connect is the deliberate leak path built into the sealing element of the 26675 coupling. Before pressing, an unpressed connection weeps under test pressure, so an installer walking a charged system can spot a joint that got missed instead of finding it after the ceiling closes. It does not replace pressing, it only makes an unpressed joint visible.
