Viega 26690 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe size does the Viega MegaPress 26690 coupling press onto?
Model 26690 is a 3 inch by 3 inch press coupling, so it joins two 3 inch pipe ends. Both ends are press connections (P1 x P2), no threading or welding at the joint.
2) What pipe material is the MegaPress 26690 made for?
The fitting body is carbon steel, matching black iron and carbon steel pipe systems rather than copper or stainless lines. If your run is copper, you want a copper press fitting instead.
3) What does the "no stop" mean on this 3 inch MegaPress coupling?
A no-stop coupling has no internal shoulder between the two press ends, so the fitting can slide along the pipe. That lets you drop it over a cut-out section and slide it into position for a repair, where a stop-type coupling would have to be threaded or sprung into place.
4) Does the Viega 26690 have Smart Connect, and what does that do for me on inspection?
Yes, 26690 is a Smart Connect fitting. The feature leaves an unpressed connection leaking visibly during pressure testing, so a joint someone forgot to press shows itself before the wall closes up. It is a checkable item on a punch list, not a substitute for pressing every joint.
