Viega 26895 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do I have to cut and thread the main line to add a 3/4 inch branch off a 2 inch steel pipe?
Not with the 26895. The press-in branch connector seats onto the 2 inch carbon steel run and is pressed in place, giving you a 3/4 inch FPT outlet without threading the main. The branch itself is female thread, so your takeoff nipple or valve threads right in.
2) Can I use a MegaPress press-in branch connector on copper or stainless pipe?
No. The Viega 26895 is a carbon steel fitting and is made for black iron / carbon steel pipe runs. For copper or stainless you need the press system built for that material, not this carbon steel MegaPress connector.
3) Is a press-in branch connector the right choice instead of a full tee?
A branch connector like the 26895 is for adding a 3/4 inch takeoff to an existing 2 inch carbon steel line without cutting the run apart. A standard tee is the right call on new pipe you are assembling anyway, or where the branch is close to the size of the main. For a small branch off a live, already-installed 2 inch run, the press-in connector saves you the cut, the re-support and the realignment.
4) What else do I need to order with the 26895 to finish a 3/4 inch takeoff?
The connector gives you a 3/4 inch female thread and nothing more. You supply whatever threads into it, a nipple, a valve, or a male adapter to transition to your branch material, plus thread sealant. You also need a press tool with the correct jaw for a 2 inch MegaPress connection.
