So you press once at the 2-1/2 inch pipe and once at the mating 3 inch fitting socket. It is not a female-threaded or grooved connection, and neither end accepts threaded pipe.
2) What pipe material does the Viega 28835 reducer press onto?
Carbon steel. The 28835 reducer body is carbon steel and the MegaPress system is built for black iron and carbon steel pipe, not copper or stainless. If you are joining copper tube you need a ProPress copper fitting instead, and stainless lines need a stainless press fitting.
3) Is the Viega 28835 a tee or a straight reducer?
It is a reducing coupling-style part that steps 3 inch down to 2-1/2 inch, with an FTG end on the large side and a press socket on the small side. It is not a three-outlet branch fitting, so if you need to take a 2-1/2 inch branch off a 3 inch run you want a reducing tee, not the 28835.
