Ty-Duct TYD2X4NPW6 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size is the Ty-Duct TYD2X4NPW6 wiring duct and how long is each stick?
It's a 2 x 4 narrow slot wiring duct in white, supplied in 6 ft (1.83 m) lengths. The 2x4 refers to the duct cross section, so you get a deep channel for bundling multiple circuits inside a panel or along a control cabinet wall.
2) Does this Ty-Duct narrow slot duct come with adhesive backing, or do I have to screw it down?
No adhesive backing on the TYD2X4NPW6. It has to be mechanically fastened, so plan on drilling the base and running screws or rivets into the backpan or subpanel. Mounting hardware isn't part of the duct.
3) What's the difference between narrow slot and wide slot wiring duct?
Narrow slot duct, which is what the TYD2X4NPW6 is, has closely spaced finger openings. That keeps smaller control and signal conductors captured in the channel instead of popping out, and it gives you more break-out points along the run. Wide slot is the better pick when you're routing heavier power conductors or thick bundles that won't pass through a narrow entrance. For low-voltage control panels and terminal strip wiring, narrow is the usual choice.
4) Is the Ty-Duct 2x4 duct plastic or metal, and is it OK in a damp mechanical room?
It's PVC, not metal. PVC won't corrode or rust the way a painted steel raceway can, which is why it's the standard for indoor panel and control wiring. It is not a rated wet-location or outdoor raceway, so keep it inside enclosures and conditioned or dry interior spaces.
5) How is Ty-Duct TYD2X4NPW6 sold, by the stick or by the foot?
The selling unit of measure is the foot, and each piece is a 6 ft length. So a 100-pack order works out to lengths you cut to suit the panel layout. Buy in multiples of 6 ft when you're laying out a run so you're not left short on the last leg.
6) Will white wiring duct match the duct already installed in my existing control panels?
The TYD2X4NPW6 is white, which is the common color for control panel and telecom duct, so it will blend with existing white runs. If your panels were built out in gray, the color will read as a mismatch even though the duct functions identically. Check the cross section too: a 2x4 base and cover won't mate with a 1x2 or 2x2 run, so order matching sizes for continuous runs.
7) Is Ty-Duct wiring duct made in the USA?
Yes. Country of origin on the TYD2X4NPW6 is the United States, which matters if you're bidding government or institutional work with domestic-content requirements on the material submittal.
8) What is the manufacturer part number for the Ty-Duct 2x4 narrow slot white duct?
The MPN is TYD2X4NPW6 from Ty-Duct. The number reads out as 2x4 cross section, narrow slot (NP), white (W), 6 ft length, which is handy when you're spec'ing adjacent sizes from the same family.
