Metallics RB74 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the Metallics RB74 reducing bushing step conduit down to?
The RB74 is a steel conduit reducing bushing that takes a 3 inch opening down to 1-1/2 inch. It's the part you use when a box or fitting is tapped for 3 inch hub and the run coming into it is 1-1/2 inch conduit.
2) Is the Metallics RB74 bushing steel or plastic?
Steel. The RB74 reducing bushing is a steel part, not a plastic or nylon insert, so it is used as a threaded reducer rather than as a conductor-protecting insulating bushing. If you need insulation at the conduit end, a separate insulating bushing or bushed fitting is the part for that.
3) Do I need a 3 to 1-1/2 inch reducing bushing or a reducing washer set?
A reducing bushing like the RB74 threads into the larger 3 inch opening and gives you a 1-1/2 inch threaded connection, so it works where the enclosure or fitting has a threaded hub. Reducing washers are the choice for an oversized unthreaded knockout, where two washers sandwich the sheet metal around the smaller connector. Match the part to what the opening actually is before ordering.
