Metallics 3001KOSGSS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size knockout does the Metallics 3001KOSGSS seal close off?
It is a 3 inch knockout seal, so it plugs an unused 3 inch trade size knockout in an enclosure, panel, box, or wireway. For other hole sizes you need the matching size seal, not this one.
2) Is the 3001KOSGSS knockout seal stainless steel, and which grade?
316 stainless steel. That is the grade specified for marine, coastal, food processing, and washdown environments where chlorides attack plated steel or 304, so it holds up in wet and corrosive locations better than a standard zinc plated seal.
3) What do I order to seal an unused 3 inch hole in a stainless enclosure?
The Metallics knockout seal, part number 3001KOSGSS, covers a 3 inch knockout and is 316 stainless, which matches the material of a 316 stainless enclosure so you are not mixing metals at the opening. Order one seal per open hole.
4) Can I use a 3 inch knockout seal instead of a conduit plug on an open hole?
Different parts for different openings. A knockout seal closes a punched knockout hole in sheet metal, as the 3001KOSGSS does for a 3 inch knockout. A threaded plug closes a tapped hub or an unused threaded conduit opening. If the hole has no thread, you want the knockout seal.
5) Does a 3 inch knockout seal come with the gasket and hardware to close the hole?
The 3001KOSGSS is sold as a knockout seal assembly for a 3 inch knockout in 316 stainless. Buyers standardizing an outdoor or washdown panel typically order one per unused opening and need nothing else at the hole itself.
