Metallics 1501KOSGSS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size knockout does the Metallics 1501KOSGSS seal close off?
It is made for a 1-1/2 inch knockout, which is the opening left by a 1-1/2 inch trade size conduit hole in a box, panel, or enclosure wall. Ordered under part number 1501KOSGSS, it comes as a seal and gasket together, so you are closing the hole and sealing it in one part rather than sourcing a washer separately.
2) Can I use this to plug an unused 1-1/2 inch hole in an outdoor enclosure?
That is the job it is built for. A knockout seal fills an unused or abandoned conduit opening so the enclosure stays closed up, and the 316 stainless body with its gasket handles wet and corrosive outdoor locations better than a plated plug. Match the hole to 1-1/2 inch trade size before ordering, since these are size specific and will not span a larger opening.
3) Is the Metallics 1-1/2 inch knockout seal stainless steel?
Yes, it is 316 stainless. That is the grade electricians reach for in washdown areas, coastal or marine work, food plants, and chemical exposure where plated steel plugs corrode at the hole and start weeping. It is also a US-made part.
4) Do I need to buy a separate gasket for a 1-1/2 inch knockout seal, or is one included?
The 1501KOSGSS ships as a seal and gasket set, so no separate sealing washer is needed to close the 1-1/2 inch opening. Just the seal and its gasket plus your wrench.
