Metallics 1251KOSGSS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size knockout does the Metallics 1251KOSGSS seal fit?
It's sized for a 1-1/4 inch knockout. The 1251KOSGSS is a K-O seal supplied with its gasket, so it plugs an unused 1-1/4 inch opening in a box, panel or enclosure. If your open knockout is a different trade size, you need the matching size seal instead, since these are size specific.
2) Is the 1251KOSGSS knockout seal stainless steel, and which grade?
The seal is 316 stainless, designated 316S in the Metallics part description. That grade is the one specified for washdown, coastal, food plant and chemical exposure where plated steel plugs rust out. For dry indoor panel work a plated steel seal is usually all that gets specified.
3) Does the Metallics 1251KOSGSS come with a gasket or do I order that separately?
The gasket ships with it. The part is sold as a K-O seal and gasket together under the single number 1251KOSGSS, so there's nothing extra to add to the order to get a sealed closure on the knockout.
4) What do I use to close an unused 1-1/4 inch knockout in an enclosure?
A knockout seal like the Metallics 1251KOSGSS is the right part: it closes the open hole with a gasket behind it rather than leaving the enclosure open to dust and water. A conduit plug is a different item, it threads into a hub or a fitting opening, not a punched knockout. Match the seal to the knockout trade size, here 1-1/4 inch.
5) Is the Metallics 1251KOSGSS made in the USA?
Yes, the 1-1/4 inch 316 stainless K-O seal and gasket is listed by Metallics as USA made, which is what matters on federal, military and Buy American funded jobs where country of origin has to be documented.
