Southwire SPH300-06 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Southwire SPH300-06 SIMpull Head fit?
The SPH300-06 is sized for 300 kcmil conductor. Southwire's SIMpull Head line spans 1 AWG through 1000 kcmil, so each head is matched to one conductor size, not adjustable across a range. Order the head that matches the cable you are pulling.
2) How long is the SPH300-06 pulling head, and will it clear a tight conduit bend?
The head measures 12.6 in extension by 3.9 in width by 1.6 in height, and Southwire builds the SIMpull Heads with the lowest profile available plus staggered lengths across conductors. The low height and staggered arrangement are what keep the bundle of heads from stacking up into a bulky knot at a sweep or an LB.
3) How many SIMpull pulling heads come in a pack?
Inner pack is 5 heads. For a three or four conductor pull plus a ground you would use one head per conductor, so a single inner pack covers a typical feeder pull.
4) Why are SIMpull heads made in staggered lengths?
Staggering means the heads on each conductor sit at different points along the pull rather than all bunched at the same spot. That keeps the combined cross section down through bends and makes the whole bundle easier to get around corners in the raceway.
5) Do I still need to build a pulling eye or basket grip if I use the SIMpull Head?
No. The SIMpull Head is the pulling device itself, factory formed for the conductor size, which is where the time saving comes from compared with taping up and forming a head on site. You attach it and connect to your rope or swivel.
6) What is the SIMpull pulling head made of, and is it rated for commercial work?
Steel construction, silver finish, and Southwire classifies it as a commercial product. It is a jobsite pulling device for feeder and service conductor installs, not a residential accessory.
7) How much does one SPH300-06 head weigh?
0.725 lb per head. Light enough that adding one to each conductor does not meaningfully change what your tugger sees on the rope.
