Metallics HMC23SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Metallics HMC23SS clamp stainless steel, and can it go outdoors or in a wet location?
It is an 18-8 stainless clamp. 18-8 is the common 300 series austenitic stainless (roughly 18 percent chromium, 8 percent nickel) used for general corrosion resistance, which is why it is specified for damp, exterior, and washdown areas rather than a plain plated band clamp.
2) Will one HMC23SS clamp cover both 1 inch and 1-1/2 inch conduit on the same job?
Yes, within the 3/4 to 1-3/4 inch adjustment band a single part number covers several trade sizes in that span, which is why crews carry it instead of a separate fixed-size clamp for each run. Anything above 1-3/4 inches needs a larger clamp.
3) How many sizes or finishes does the Metallics HMC23SS come in?
One configuration only. The HMC23SS is a single model, the 18-8 stainless band covering 3/4 to 1-3/4 inches, so there is no finish or size selection to make when ordering.
