1) Will the Allied Tube & Conduit SC400-ICRKON connector work on 4 inch EMT?
Yes. The SC400-ICRKON is a set screw connector sized for 4 inch EMT (electrical metallic tubing). It terminates the tubing into a box or enclosure, and the insulated throat protects conductor insulation as wire is pulled through. It is not for rigid or IMC threaded conduit, and it is not a compression fitting.
2) Can I use a set screw EMT connector in a concrete pour?
The SC400-ICRKON is concrete tight when taped, so it can be used in a poured slab provided the joint is taped per that instruction. Untaped, a set screw fitting should not be treated as concrete tight. If you want a fitting that is concrete tight without taping, look at a compression (raintight) EMT connector instead.
3) Does the SC400-ICRKON EMT connector use hex head or tri-head set screws?
At the 4 inch size it uses hex head screws. Allied Tube & Conduit runs hex head screws across the 2-1/2 inch through 4 inch connectors, while the smaller 1/2 inch through 2 inch sizes come with pre-set and staked tri-head screws. So bring a nut driver or socket for this one rather than a screwdriver.
4) Why choose an insulated throat connector for a 4 inch EMT run?
Large EMT means large conductors and long pulls, and a bare metal throat can nick insulation on the way in. The ICRKON version of the 4 inch set screw connector has an insulated throat built into the fitting, so you are not adding a separate bushing at the box to protect the conductors.
5) Is a set screw connector strong enough for 4 inch conduit, or do I need something heavier?
The Allied set screw connectors are built with heavy steel walls, which is what carries the weight and mechanical load on the larger trade sizes like 4 inch. For a dry indoor or concrete-encased termination it is the standard choice. For wet or outdoor locations, a raintight compression connector is the right fitting instead.
