Metallics CWWL400 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Metallics CWWL400 and how long is it?
The CWWL400 is a drain spade with a wood handle, 47 inches overall. A drain spade has a long, narrow, rounded blade, so it's the shovel used for digging and cleaning out narrow trenches, which is why it turns up on conduit and underground electrical runs rather than general bulk digging.
2) Is a drain spade the right shovel for digging conduit trench, or should I use a round point?
For trench work, the drain spade is the one you want. Its narrow rounded blade cuts and cleans a tight slot, which is what you need for conduit and direct-burial cable runs. A round point digger is for breaking ground and moving volume, not for keeping a trench wall straight. The Metallics CWWL400 is a 47 inch wood-handled drain spade.
3) Is the CWWL400 a fiberglass or wood handled shovel?
Wood handle. If your crews prefer fiberglass for weather exposure or shock, the CWWL400 isn't that tool, it's a wood-handled 47 inch drain spade.
4) Does the CWWL400 come in more than one length or handle option?
One configuration only: model CWWL400, the 47 inch drain spade with a wood handle. There are no alternate lengths or handle materials to specify when ordering.
