Viega 49533 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size runs and branch does the Viega 49533 PureFlow press tee have?
The Viega 49533 PureFlow press tee is a reducing tee at 1 inch x 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch, so the main run is 1 inch and both the second run end and the branch are 1/2 inch. That makes it the fitting for pulling a pair of 1/2 inch fixture drops off a 1 inch PEX trunk line.
2) Is the Viega 49533 tee a brass fitting or plastic?
Polymer, not brass. The 49533 PureFlow press tee is molded polymer throughout, which is what plumbers specify where they want to avoid dezincification in aggressive or high-chloride water. If the job spec calls out a metallic fitting, this is not the one.
3) What kind of connections are on the Viega 49533 PureFlow tee, and do I need a press tool?
All three ends are PureFlow press connections (P1 x P2 x P3), so it is made up with PEX and a press tool over a press sleeve, not with crimp rings or expansion. You need the matching Viega PureFlow press jaws sized for 1 inch and 1/2 inch. No soldering, no glue, no threading.
4) What does Smart Connect technology do on a Viega PureFlow fitting?
Smart Connect is Viega's unpressed-connection feature: an unpressed joint leaks visibly during pressure test so it gets caught before the walls close. On a branch-heavy fitting like the 49533, which has three separate press points, that matters because one missed press out of three is the realistic failure on a rough-in.
5) How much room do I need in the stud bay for the Viega 49533 tee?
The 49533 measures 2.425 inches long, 1.988 inches wide and 1.299 inches high, so it clears a standard 2x4 bay with the tool jaw being the real constraint rather than the fitting. Lay out your press tool swing before committing the drop locations.
6) Is the Viega 49533 PureFlow tee made in the USA?
Yes, the 49533 is made in the USA, which is what institutional and government buyers need when domestic-preference language sits in the contract.
7) What is the Viega part number and UPC for the 1 x 1/2 x 1/2 PureFlow polymer press tee?
Order it as Viega 49533. That single manufacturer part number covers the 1 inch x 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch polymer PureFlow press tee, and it carries UPC 691514495330.
