Yes. This is a press fitting, not a crimp or expansion fitting, so it is installed with a Viega PureFlow press tool and the correct 1/2 inch PEX press jaw. You cannot make the joint with a copper crimp ring tool, a cinch clamp tool, or an expander. If your crew is tooled for crimp rings only, order crimp-style tees instead.
2) Is the Viega 49520 tee brass or plastic?
Polymer. The 49520 PureFlow tee is a polymer body rather than brass, which is what plumbers reach for on potable water where they want to avoid brass in aggressive or low pH water. It is made in the USA.

Fitting body measures 2.213 inches long, 1.528 inches wide and 0.839 inches high, so it clears a standard 2x4 bay easily and will sit inside a bored joist run with room for the press jaw to close around it. Allow extra clearance for the jaw itself, which is wider than the fitting.
5) Can I use the Viega 49520 to branch a 1/2 inch hot line to a lavatory?
That is exactly what it is for. A 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 tee takes a 1/2 inch trunk through and picks off a 1/2 inch branch to a fixture. Because all three legs are PEX press ends, the branch continues in PEX, you would land the transition to the stop valve further along with a PEX to threaded adapter, not at the tee.
