Metallics MHOK58M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Metallics MHOK58M beam clamp spring steel?
Yes, the MHOK58M is a spring-steel knock-on clamp. The spring tension is what grips the flange once the clamp is driven on, which is why the thickness range matters: on flanges under 5/16 inch it won't hold tension, and over 1/2 inch it won't seat.
2) How do I pick the right knock-on beam clamp size for my steel?
Measure the flange thickness at the edge where the clamp will sit, not the web. The MHOK58M is the 5/16 to 1/2 inch version. Thinner bar joist or light flange needs a smaller-range knock-on clamp, and heavier structural flange past 1/2 inch needs a bolted or malleable-iron beam clamp instead.
