1) Will a 5/16-18 socket head cap screw thread into a standard 5/16 coarse tapped hole or Unistrut nut?
Yes. The Metallics JSHC516114 is a 5/16-18 UN thread, 18 threads per inch, which is the standard coarse pitch for 5/16 fasteners. It will run into any 5/16-18 tapped hole, channel nut, or strut nut. If your hardware is 5/16-24 fine thread, this is the wrong screw.
2) Is a socket head cap screw stronger than a Grade 5 or Grade 8 hex bolt?
The alloy steel socket head cap screw carries 180,000 psi minimum tensile and 162,000 psi minimum yield, which is greater tensile strength than equivalent sizes of Grade 5 or Grade 8 hex head cap screws, and it does it while needing less surface area or counterbore because it is wrenched from inside the head. Hardness is Rockwell C39. That combination is why these get specified in tight pockets where a hex head will not clear.
3) Can I use these black alloy socket cap screws outdoors or in a wet location?
