Metallics HG5564 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is a hole grommet like the Metallics HG5564 actually used for?
It lines a drilled hole or knockout in sheet metal so wire passing through isn't cut by the raw metal edge. Electricians drop them into panels, enclosures, equipment housings and chassis openings wherever a conductor crosses a metal wall without a connector or bushing. The HG5564 is a vinyl grommet, so it also takes up a little vibration between the cable and the panel.
2) Is the Metallics HG5564 grommet metal or plastic?
Vinyl, not metal. That's what the "Vy" in the HG5564 description refers to. A flexible vinyl body is what lets it snap into the hole and grip, and it's non-conductive, which is the point when the wire would otherwise bear on a grounded metal edge. If you need a threaded metal bushing or a listed cable connector instead, this is not that part.
3) How do I order the Metallics HG5564 grommet, and are there different sizes or finishes to pick?
There's one configuration: model HG5564 in the 55/64 x 1-3/16 vinyl size. No finish, color or length choices to specify. If your hole or cable diameter doesn't match those two numbers, you need a different grommet size rather than an option on this one.
