2) Why use a 1 inch long device screw instead of the short ones that come with the receptacle?
The screws packed with a device are usually about 1/2 inch, which runs out of thread once a box is set back behind thick drywall, tile, panelling or a stack of mud rings. The TM63M gives you a full 1 inch of 6-32 thread so you can still pull the device up tight to the ring. It is the same thread, just longer.
3) What driver do I need for the Metallics TM63M screws, Phillips or flat?
Either. It is a combo head, slotted and Phillips in the same recess, so whatever is already in your pouch or on your screwgun will drive it. Handy on a trim-out where you are switching between device screws and terminal screws.
4) Why a truss head on a receptacle screw, and will it still sit flat under the cover plate?
A truss head is wide and low, so it spans the oversized slot in a device strap without pulling through, and its low profile keeps it from interfering with the back of the wall plate. That is the reason this head style is used for device mounting rather than a tall round or pan head.

The TM63M is steel with a zinc plating, which is a dry-interior finish. It is fine for standard indoor boxes and rings. For wet or corrosive locations, specify a stainless device screw instead.

They work anywhere a 6-32 machine thread is tapped, which covers device straps, plaster and mud rings, and most steel box ears. Cover plates are a different animal: standard wall plate screws are 6-32 but usually oval or flat head so they sit flush in the plate, and a 1 inch length is longer than a plate needs.
