6-32 is the standard thread used for device and cover screws in steel boxes, and the JRM3SLT is a 6-32 machine screw with 32 threads per inch, so it threads into tapped 6-32 holes. The catch is length: at 1/4 inch it is short, which suits attaching a plate or strap directly to a tapped ear or bracket with little stack-up. If you are reaching through a mud ring, a plaster ring, or a thick plate, you need a longer 6-32 screw.

The round head measures 0.24 to 0.26 inch across and stands 0.091 to 0.103 inch above the surface. That domed profile is not countersunk, so plan on roughly a tenth of an inch of head sitting proud. Where the fastener has to finish flush with a plate or a sliding surface, use a flat head 6-32 instead.

They come in a jar of 100, and 100 count is the order minimum. For an MRO crib or a service van, that jar is the unit you stock, not loose singles.

The JRM3SLT is zinc plated carbon steel, made from AISI 1006 to 1022 stock. Zinc plating handles indoor and dry locations fine, but it is sacrificial and will corrode in wet, coastal, or washdown environments. For those, specify a stainless 6-32 machine screw rather than the zinc version.

The JRM3SLT carries both ARRA and Buy American compliance flags in the manufacturer data, though country of origin is listed as China. On a federally funded project, verify which specific clause applies to your contract, since the two programs treat fasteners differently.

The JRM3SLT itself is slotted only. Metallics does publish a recess penetration gaging depth of 0.045 to 0.073 inch in the shared round head machine screw spec, which covers recessed drives in the family, but this part number is the slotted one. If your spec calls for a combo or Phillips drive, order a different model in the line rather than this one.
