Viega 77033 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Viega 77033 ProPress 45 degree elbow work on 1-1/4 inch copper tube on both ends?
Yes. The 77033 is a 1-1/4 inch by 1-1/4 inch press fitting with a press end on each side (P1 x P2), so it joins two runs of 1-1/4 inch copper tube with no adapter. Both ends are press, not sweat and not threaded, so the tube gets deburred, marked for insertion depth, and pressed with the matching 1-1/4 inch jaw.
2) What does Smart Connect on a Viega ProPress fitting actually do for me on the job?
Smart Connect is a feature of the sealing element on the 77033 elbow: an unpressed connection will leak visibly during pressure testing instead of holding, so a joint you skipped shows itself before the walls close up. It is a quality-control aid, not a substitute for pressing every joint.
