1) What pipe size does the Viega MegaPress 84355 45-degree elbow fit?
The MegaPress 84355 is a 1-1/2 inch by 1-1/2 inch 45-degree elbow, press on both ends. It's sized for 1-1/2 inch black iron / carbon steel pipe, so both legs take the same size, no reducing.
2) Is the Viega 84355 elbow threaded or does it press on?
Both ends are press connections, listed as P1 x P2. There is no thread and no groove, so you cut and deburr the pipe, mark insertion depth, slide the fitting on and press with the matching MegaPress jaw. Nothing on this fitting will mate to a threaded nipple without an adapter.
3) Will a MegaPress carbon steel elbow work on copper or PEX?
No. The 84355 is a carbon steel press fitting made for carbon steel (black iron) pipe. For copper tube you need Viega's ProPress copper fittings, and for PEX you need a PEX system fitting. Pressing a carbon steel MegaPress fitting onto copper is not a valid joint.
4) Does the Viega 84355 include the sealing element, or do I buy the O-ring separately?
The press elbow ships with the sealing element already seated in both press collars, along with Viega's Smart Connect feature, which leaves an unpressed connection deliberately leaking so you can spot a missed joint on pressure test. You don't order the seal separately, you just need the press tool and the correct 1-1/2 inch MegaPress jaw, which are not part of the fitting.
