Viega 90095 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the P x FTG connection on the Viega 90095 MegaPress 45 degree elbow mean for install?
P x FTG means one end is a press socket and the other is a fitting (street) end sized to slip into another press socket. So the 90095 presses onto 1-1/2 inch pipe on one side, and its street end drops directly into the socket of the next MegaPress fitting on the other. That saves you a coupling and a few inches of pipe when you need to change direction right at a fitting.
2) Is the Viega 90095 MegaPress fitting stainless or carbon steel, and what pipe does it go on?
It is 316 stainless steel. MegaPress fittings press onto black iron and other steel pipe, and the 316 body gives you corrosion resistance where a carbon steel fitting would be a problem. Size is 1-1/2 inch on both ends.
3) How much space does the Viega 1-1/2 inch 45 degree street elbow take up in a tight chase?
Overall it measures 5.795 x 4.024 x 2.437 inches and weighs 1.232 lbs. Because it is a street configuration, it adds no coupling length when it goes straight into the next fitting socket, which is usually what buys you the clearance in a congested chase.
4) What is Smart Connect on the Viega 90095 and why does it matter on a punch list?
Smart Connect is a deliberate feature in the sealing element that lets an unpressed connection weep during pressure test, so you find the joint you missed instead of finding it after the ceiling closes. On a large steel system it is the difference between a quick test and chasing a leak later.
