Viega 90525 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size pipe does the Viega 90525 street elbow press onto?
4 inch. Both ends are 4 inch, the press side onto 4 inch pipe and the fitting end into another 4 inch MegaPress socket.
2) Do I need a street elbow or a standard press x press elbow here?
Use the street configuration when the 90 lands directly at another fitting, such as off a tee or a valve socket, because the FTG end inserts straight into that fitting's press socket. If both sides of the turn are open pipe, a press x press elbow is the right part instead. The 90525 is the P x FTG version in 4 inch.
3) Is the Viega 90525 MegaPress elbow stainless or carbon steel?
It is 316 stainless steel, body and all. That is the corrosion-resistant grade, so it suits stainless pipe runs and wet or chemically aggressive environments rather than plain black iron service.
4) What is Smart Connect on a Viega MegaPress fitting and why does it matter on a big commercial job?
Smart Connect is Viega's unpressed-connection feature: a fitting that was left unpressed leaks visibly during pressure test instead of passing and failing later. On a run with dozens of 4 inch joints, that is how the crew finds the one connection that got skipped before the ceiling closes.
