Viega 90735 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What connections does the Viega MegaPress 90735 adapter have?
The Viega 90735 MegaPress adapter is a press by male pipe thread fitting (P x MPT) in 4 inch x 4 inch. The press end goes onto 4 inch pipe with a MegaPress jaw and the threaded end screws into a female NPT port, so it is the transition piece between a pressed run and threaded equipment like a valve, gauge port, or pump flange adapter.
2) Is the Viega 90735 MegaPress fitting stainless or carbon steel?
It is 316 stainless steel, not carbon. That matters if you are running the line in a corrosive or washdown environment, or anywhere carbon steel press fittings would not hold up. Keep the rest of the joint consistent with your system material and corrosion spec.
3) What is Smart Connect on the Viega 90735 and why does it matter on a 4 inch press joint?
Smart Connect is Viega's unpressed-joint feature: an unpressed connection leaks during pressure test so the installer finds it before the system is buttoned up. On a 4 inch line that is the difference between catching a missed press at test and chasing it after the ceiling is closed.
