Viega 91245 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What connections does the Viega MegaPress 91245 adapter have?
It's a P x FPT adapter: one press end that goes onto 3/4 inch pipe, and a 3/4 inch female pipe thread on the other side. So it takes you from a pressed joint to any 3/4 inch male-threaded component, valve, gauge tee, or existing threaded line.
2) Is the Viega 91245 stainless or carbon steel MegaPress?
316 stainless steel. That's the MegaPressG/MegaPress stainless line rather than the zinc-nickel coated carbon steel version, so it's the one to use where you need corrosion resistance, in chemical, food, or wash-down service and on stainless pipe systems. Don't substitute a carbon steel body into a stainless run.
3) What is Smart Connect on this Viega press fitting and why does it matter on a punch list?
Smart Connect is the feature built into the 91245 that leaves an unpressed connection deliberately leaky during pressure testing, so a joint someone forgot to press shows itself instead of being found after the ceiling closes. It doesn't change how you press the fitting, it just makes a missed press visible at test.
4) How much room does the Viega 91245 3/4 inch adapter take up in a tight chase?
Compact: 2.433 inches long, 1.494 inches on both height and width, and it weighs 0.293 lbs. Bear in mind you also need clearance for the press jaw around the press end, which is wider than the fitting itself.
