Viega 91760 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Viega 91760 elbow press-fit on both ends, or does one side thread?
Both ends are press connections. The connection type is listed as P1 x P2, meaning press by press, so you need a MegaPress jaw and press tool for each joint. There is no threaded or soldered end on this fitting.
2) Is the Viega 91760 45-degree elbow stainless or carbon steel?
It is 316 stainless steel, not carbon steel. That matters because MegaPress is offered in both: the carbon steel version is for black iron pipe runs, while 316 stainless is specified where corrosion resistance is needed. Confirm your run calls for stainless before ordering this one.
3) How much space does the Viega 91760 elbow take up in a tight chase?
The fitting measures 3.709 inches in length, 2.587 inches in width and 1.496 inches in height, and weighs 0.357 lbs. Use those numbers when you are laying out a 45-degree offset in a chase or close to a wall, and remember you also need clearance around each end for the press jaw to close.
4) What does Smart Connect do on a MegaPress fitting, and do I still have to check my joints?
Smart Connect is a feature of the sealing element on the Viega 91760 that leaves an unpressed joint visibly leaking under test pressure, so an overlooked connection shows itself during pressure testing rather than after the wall closes. It does not replace a pressure test; it is what makes the test catch the miss.
