Viega 95655 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Viega 95655 MegaPress fitting press-to-press on both ends, or does one end thread?
Both ends are press. The 95655 is listed with a P1 x P2 connection, so it joins two press connections with no threading, welding, or soldering at either end. Both openings are sized 4 inch.
2) What is the Viega 95655 made of, and will it hold up in a corrosive or wet mechanical room?
It is 304 stainless steel throughout, which is the corrosion-resistant option in the MegaPress line and the usual pick where carbon steel would rust in damp or washdown areas. Stainless also matters when the system itself is stainless pipe and you do not want dissimilar metals in the run.
3) What does Smart Connect on the Viega 95655 actually do for me on the job?
Smart Connect is Viega's unpressed-connection feature: the sealing element is shaped so an unpressed joint leaks visibly during pressure test instead of holding long enough to pass and fail later. On a 4 inch stainless run with many joints, that is how the installer finds the one connection the tool missed before the ceiling closes.
4) How much space do I need around the Viega 95655 4 inch MegaPress fitting, and how heavy is it to hold in place?
Plan for a body measuring 5.185 x 7.874 x 5.185 inches and about 4.174 lbs of fitting weight. At 4 inch size you also need clearance for the press jaw or ring around the full circumference of each end, so tight-to-wall or tight-to-joist locations need to be checked before you commit the layout.
5) Which Viega part number do I order for the 4 inch x 4 inch stainless MegaPress fitting?
Order Viega 95655. That is the manufacturer part number for the 4 inch x 4 inch 304 stainless MegaPress fitting with stop, and it is made in Germany.
6) Does the Viega 95655 come with the sealing element installed, or do I buy that separately?
The sealing element is factory installed in the fitting; MegaPress is supplied as a complete press fitting. What is not included is the press tool and the 4 inch jaw or press ring set, which you supply, plus pipe deburring and marking as part of normal prep.
