Viega 98495 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do I need to thread or weld the Viega 98495 stainless elbow?
No. The 98495 is a press fitting. The socket end is pressed onto the pipe with a press tool and the correct 2-1/2 inch jaw or ring, with no threading, no flame and no welding. The fitting-end side is pressed by the mating MegaPress fitting it slips into. A press tool and 2-1/2 inch jaw are required and are not part of the fitting.
2) Is the Viega 98495 elbow suitable for a corrosive or wet environment?
The 98495 is 316 stainless steel, the grade specified where chloride exposure or washdown would attack 304 or carbon steel. It is made in Germany. Use it where the run itself is stainless; mixing it into a carbon steel line still has to be evaluated for dissimilar metal contact at the joint.
3) What is Smart Connect on the Viega MegaPress 98495?
Smart Connect is the feature Viega builds into the sealing element of the 98495 so an unpressed joint leaks visibly during pressure testing. You find the missed connection on the test instead of after the ceiling is closed. It is not a substitute for pressing every joint.
4) What is the Viega part number and UPC for the 2-1/2 inch MegaPress 316 stainless 45 degree street elbow?
Order it as Viega 98495. The UPC on the fitting is 691514984957. There is a single model, 2-1/2 by 2-1/2 inch, so no finish or option choice to specify.
