Altronix AL125ULX – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Altronix AL125ULX run 12VDC and 24VDC devices, or do I have to pick one?
The AL125ULX is a field-selectable supply: it converts a 115VAC 50/60Hz input into either 12VDC or 24VDC at the outputs, not both at once. You set the output voltage for the unit, so all connected devices on it need to share the same voltage. If you have a mix of 12V card readers and 24V strikes on one opening, plan on two supplies or split the loads.
2) How much current does the AL125ULX deliver, and will it hold up a maglock plus a reader?
Rated output is 1A total on the AL125ULX. That is enough for a single maglock or electric strike with a reader or two on the same opening, but it is not a multi-door panel supply. Add up the holding current of every device you intend to power and keep the total under 1A; if you are past that, step up to something like the RCI DKPS-2A at 2A or the SDC 634 Series at 4 amps.
3) Will the Altronix AL125ULX keep a door powered during a power outage?
It has an onboard charger, so it maintains standby batteries wired into the unit and carries the load when AC drops. Batteries are sized to the runtime you need and are bought separately. If you want a supply that ships as a battery-backup package, the Adams Rite PS-1 is a 1 amp 12/24VDC regulated supply listed with battery backup, and the Command Access PS204/204B is a 2A 24VDC linear supply with battery backup.
4) Can I feed two separate doors from one AL125ULX?
Two individually protected outputs make it possible to feed two devices independently, so a fault on one leg does not take out the other. The limit is capacity, not output count: both doors share the same 1A and the same selected voltage. Two maglocks will usually fit inside 1A; two strikes with readers may not. If you need more independent legs, the RCI DKPS-2A carries 8 outputs at 12/24VDC and 2A.
5) What is the closest 1 amp 12/24VDC equivalent to the Altronix AL125ULX from another brand?
The Securitron AQD1 is the nearest match: it is a switching power supply rated 12/24 VDC at 1 amp, the same dual-voltage selection and 1A output the AL125ULX delivers. The Altronix unit distributes that output through two individually PTC protected Class 2 outputs and ships with an enclosure and charger, while the AQD1 is a switching supply. The SDC 620 Series is another 1 amp regulated and filtered low voltage supply with dual voltage selection if you prefer a linear regulated design, and the Adams Rite PS-1 is a regulated 1 amp 12/24 volt DC supply with battery backup.
6) The AL125ULX only gives 1 amp and I need more current for additional locks. What should I use instead?
Step up to a higher-rated supply. The SDC 632 Series is a 2 amp regulated and filtered low voltage supply with dual voltage selection, and the SDC 634 Series gives 4 amps in the same regulated and filtered format. The Von Duprin PS902 base power supply is 2A at 12/24 VDC field selectable for access control. If you also need more distribution points, the RCI DKPS-2A provides 8 outputs at 12/24VDC and 2A, versus the two PTC protected outputs on the AL125ULX. For 12VDC only at high current, the Securitron AQS1210 is a 12 VDC 10 amp switching supply.
7) How many outputs does the Altronix AL125ULX have and are they individually protected?
Two outputs, each individually PTC protected and Class 2. PTC means self-resetting overcurrent protection rather than a fuse you have to replace, so a short on one output trips that leg and restores itself once the fault is cleared, without pulling down the second output.
8) Does the AL125ULX come with an enclosure, or do I have to buy a can separately?
An enclosure is included with the AL125ULX, along with the battery charger circuit and the two PTC Class 2 outputs. You are not sourcing a separate can or backplate. Standby batteries themselves are not part of what ships.
9) What input power do I need to run to an Altronix AL125ULX?
Standard 115VAC 50/60Hz line power, so a normal 120V circuit at the location. The 50/60Hz input rating means it is not tied to 60Hz only. Run it as a dedicated unswitched circuit so access control does not drop when someone kills a lighting breaker.
10) What is a comparable 1 amp 12/24VDC power supply if the Altronix AL125ULX is not the right fit?
At the same 1A, 12/24VDC class, the Securitron AQD1 is a switching supply at 12/24 VDC 1 Amp, and the SDC 620 Series is a 1 amp regulated and filtered low voltage supply with dual voltage selection. If you want a little more headroom at 24V, the Command Access PS210 is a UL 6E/CSA linear supply with 1.5A at 24VDC and boost circuitry, and the SDC 631 Series is a 1.5 amp regulated DC controller with dual voltage selection.
11) Does the Altronix AL125ULX do access control logic and sequencing, or just power?
The AL125ULX is a power supply and charger: it converts a 115VAC 50/60Hz input into two individually PTC protected 12VDC or 24VDC outputs and ships with an enclosure and charger. It is not a logic controller. If the opening needs sequencing or relay logic, the Detex 10-800 Series is a universal logic controller with a 120VAC/24VDC power supply and battery backup, and the BEST ELR150 Series is a power supply control module for electronic access control.
12) Which of the Altronix AL125ULX alternatives come with battery backup for standby power?
The AL125ULX includes a charger along with its enclosure and two PTC Class 2 outputs. Among comparable units, the Adams Rite PS-1 is a regulated 1 amp 12/24 volt DC supply with battery backup, the Command Access PS204/204B is a linear supply with 2A at 24VDC and battery backup, and the Detex 10-800 Series pairs a 120VAC/24VDC supply with battery backup. For off-grid standby, the Securitron BPSS is a boxed solar power supply.
13) Is the AL125ULX a commercial-duty power supply or a residential unit?
It is built for commercial work: enclosed, 115VAC hardwired input, and intended for access control and security devices in a building rather than plug-in residential use. If you want a plug-in transformer style unit instead, the ROFU 9126T is a plug in mini power supply at 12VDC/1.5A with time delay.
