The 3060SH is built to replace a standard 30 x 60 inch tub footprint, but check the alcove opening before demo. The unit measures 64 inches long by 36 inches wide by 42 inches high overall, so the finished length runs a few inches past the nominal 60 inch tub space and the width is wider than a 30 inch tub deck. Frame that against your studs, not your existing tub apron.

Drain hand is set by where your existing waste line sits. The 3060SH.R is the right-hand drain version, meaning the drain end is on your right as you face the open side of the shower. American Standard builds this shower in both right hand and left hand drain so it can drop into either bathroom configuration; pick the one that matches your rough-in and you avoid rerouting the waste under the floor.

No mortar bed or site-built platform is needed. The 3060SH comes with a free standing metal support frame carrying five leveling feet, so it sets on the subfloor and levels out with the feet. That is why it can go over an uneven floor left behind by a tub tear-out without a pour.

A 24 inch chrome ADA compliant grab bar comes with the unit, plus a built-in wrap around safety bar molded into the shell and a slip-resistant floor. For an aging-in-place bath remodel, that means the primary bar is already in place and located, so you are not blocking for one after the surround is set.

A walk-in shower like the 3060SH suits someone who can walk in and sit, without the wait a walk-in tub imposes while it fills and drains. It carries a wide, full-size chair-high seat, a built-in armrest, an accessory ledge and a hand-shower glide bar, so bathing can be done seated with the sprayer brought down to hand height. A walk-in tub is the better call only when the resident specifically wants a full soak.

American Standard classes the 3060SH as a residential product. For a property manager doing accessible unit conversions in apartments or single-family rentals, that is the intended use; for a healthcare or institutional bathing room with commercial-duty requirements, specify a unit rated for that service instead.

The shell is one-piece cast acrylic, and the wall surrounds come in a tile pattern or flat acrylic. Acrylic means no grout joints in the bathing area to maintain across a unit turn, which is the practical reason it goes into rental and aging-in-place work.
