American Standard A8020T-RHO.020 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which end does the drain sit on the American Standard Aspirations 60 x 32 shower base?
Drain is on the right-hand end, so with the base set in the alcove and the threshold facing you, the waste line has to come up at the right. If your rough-in drain is on the left, this one won't land on it, and the Aspirations base is sold as separate right-hand and left-hand drain versions. The right-hand version is model A8020T-RHO.020.
2) Does the Aspirations shower base have a tile flange, or do I need a separate one?
A tile and water retention flange is built into three sides of the base, so it drops into a standard three-wall alcove and the surround or tile laps over the flange. No add-on flange kit to order. Because the flange is on three sides, it is not intended for a corner or open two-wall layout.
3) What size opening does the 60 x 32 Aspirations base need, and what other sizes does the family come in?
This one covers a 60 by 32 inch alcove. The Aspirations base family also comes 60 by 30, 60 by 36, and 48 by 36, so if your framed opening measures out differently you can stay in the same collection rather than changing brands.
4) Is this shower base acrylic or fiberglass, and will it hold up in a rental or hotel bathroom?
Acrylic, and American Standard calls it stain and chip resistant. The floor is textured for slip resistance, which matters in multi-family and hospitality where the same base sees daily use by different people. Surface is glossy white.
5) Does the Aspirations base need a mortar bed, or can it be set on the subfloor?
It has leveling feet built in, so the base is set and adjusted on the subfloor rather than bedded in mortar to get it flat. Still confirm the floor is sound and the drain rough-in is in the right spot before you set it, because the feet take out small variation, not a sloped floor.
6) Will this base match the rest of an American Standard Aspirations bathroom package?
Yes. The glossy white finish on this 60 x 32 base is made to sit with the rest of the Aspirations bath collection, so a property manager standardizing on Aspirations fixtures across units gets a consistent white across the base and the companion pieces.
