American Standard A8021T-LHO.020 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which side is the drain on the American Standard Aspirations A8021T-LHO shower base, and does that matter for my rough-in?
The drain sits on the left-hand side of the 60 x 36 inch Aspirations base. Orientation is fixed, so the waste line has to come up on the left as you face the opening. If your existing drain stub is center or right, this is the wrong part for the opening and you need the matching right-hand or center-drain version of the base instead.
2) Is the Aspirations shower base tileable on three sides for a wall surround?
It has a tile and water retention flange on three sides, so the back and two end walls are built for tile, cultured marble, or a surround panel lapping over the flange. The fourth side is the open threshold. Plan your wall finish to overlap the flange so water sheds into the pan, not behind it.
3) Will this shower base work over an out-of-level slab or subfloor?
Leveling feet are built into the base, so you can dial out minor variation in the floor and set it flat without shimming the whole pan. On a badly out-of-level floor you still want a mortar bed or correction under it; the feet handle fine adjustment, not a sloped floor.
4) What is the Aspirations shower base made of, and will it hold up in a rental or hotel bathroom?
It is acrylic, described as stain and chip-resistant, with a textured no-slip floor surface. For apartment turns and hospitality baths, the acrylic shell cleans with non-abrasive cleaners and the textured floor keeps traction when wet. Avoid abrasive pads or solvent cleaners, which dull acrylic.
5) What other sizes does the American Standard Aspirations single threshold shower base come in?
The Aspirations single threshold base is offered in 60 x 30 inch, 60 x 32 inch, 60 x 36 inch, and 48 x 36 inch. If you are replacing a standard 60 inch alcove tub, the 60 x 30 or 60 x 32 is usually the closest drop-in footprint; the 60 x 36 needs a deeper alcove than a tub leaves behind.
6) Where can I get the dimensioned rough-in drawing for this Aspirations shower base?
American Standard publishes a spec sheet PDF for the A8021T-LHO base, and it is the document to pull for the dimensioned drain location and framing dimensions before you set the waste line: https://media.distributordatasolutions.com/595/xlsx_american_standard/a307370849aa0f884febc90cb92c1507ead0a59d.pdf
7) What color is the base and drain cover on the A8021T-LHO?
Glossy white throughout, including a white drain cover, and the only finish offered is WHITE under part number A8021T-LHO.020. It is color-matched to the rest of the American Standard Aspirations bath collection, which matters if you are standardizing fixtures across a building.
8) Does the Aspirations shower base include a drain assembly?
A drain cover in white is part of the base as supplied. For the waste connection itself, confirm the drain body and trap arrangement on the American Standard spec sheet against what is already in the floor, since the pan is sold as a left-hand-drain unit rather than a trap kit.
