American Standard T430508.295 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the American Standard Berwick T430508 tub and shower trim kit include the valve?
No. The Berwick T430508 is trim only, sold LESS valve. The in-wall shower valve body is a separate purchase, so you need to order a rough valve alongside it if the wall isn't already roughed in. What you get is the metal wall escutcheon plate, the shower wall arm and flange, the metal slip-on diverter tub spout, the metal lever control handle, and the FloWise showerhead.
2) I'm remodeling a bathroom and don't want to open the wall. Can I just swap this trim onto my existing shower valve?
Only if the existing valve is an American Standard R111, R115, R117, R118 or R119 body (including the SS stainless versions). Those are the rough valves the Berwick trim is made to cover. Anything else and you're opening the wall to change the valve, because the trim kit does not include one.
3) Will the slip-on tub spout on the Berwick T430508 work on my copper stub-out?
It's a slip-on spout, meaning it slides over a smooth copper stub and locks down with a set screw rather than threading onto a nipple. If your existing stub-out is a threaded IPS nipple, a slip-on spout is the wrong style and you'd need a threaded spout instead. Worth checking what's coming out of the wall before you commit.
4) Is the Berwick shower trim low flow enough for a water conservation spec?
The showerhead is a FloWise 3-function head with a 2.0 gpm (7.6 Lpm) maximum flow, which is below the 2.5 gpm federal maximum and meets the 2.0 gpm level many water-conservation and green building programs call for. Good option for hotel and multi-family retrofits where flow rate is being standardized.
5) Can I use the Berwick T430508 for a shower-only installation with no tub?
Not as intended. It's a tub-and-shower trim, and the diverter that feeds the showerhead is built into the tub spout, so removing the spout leaves nothing to divert water. For a shower-only stall you want a shower-only trim kit instead.
6) What else do I need to order to finish a Berwick tub and shower install?
The in-wall valve is the main one, since the T430508 ships less valve and is matched to the American Standard R111, R115, R117, R118 and R119 bodies (and their SS versions). Everything on the finished wall is in the kit already: escutcheon, lever handle, shower arm and flange, showerhead, and the diverter tub spout. Beyond that it's just the supply piping and a set screw wrench for the slip-on spout.
7) Are the Berwick trim parts metal or plastic?
Metal on the parts you touch and see: the wall escutcheon plate, the lever shower control handle, and the slip-on diverter tub spout are all specified as metal. That matters in rental and hospitality settings where plastic spouts and handles are the first things to crack.
