American Standard Cardiff Slow-Close Elongated Toilet Seat - AMS-5257A65MT

The Cardiff 5257A65MT is built for conventional elongated bowls and fits most of them. It mounts from the bottom, so the bolts come up through the two holes at the back of the china and tighten from underneath. If the bowl in the unit is round front, this is the wrong seat, an elongated seat overhangs a round bowl by roughly two inches at the front.

Three colors: White, Bone, and Linen. They are separate part numbers, White is 5257A65MT.020, Bone is 5257A65MT.021, and Linen is 5257A65MT.222. American Standard uses those same .020, .021 and .222 suffixes on their china, so if you match the suffix on the toilet you are seating, the color will match the bowl.

No extra hardware to buy. The Cardiff seat ships with its bottom mounting hardware and a quick connect nut, which tightens by hand from under the bowl rim instead of needing a socket up in the tight space behind the tank. For a maintenance tech swapping seats across a building, that is a no tool install on most bowls.

The value is in what does not break. A No Slam seat lowers under its own damped hinge rather than dropping, which is what cracks lids and loosens hinge bolts over time, the two things that generate seat replacement tickets in a rental portfolio. The Cardiff also carries an EverClean antimicrobial surface that inhibits growth of odor and stain causing bacteria on the seat itself. American Standard classes this one as a residential seat, so for heavy commercial restroom traffic look at an open front commercial seat instead.

Polypropylene plastic, not the wood core with a painted enamel shell that older seats used. Polypropylene does not swell, chip, or delaminate when it gets wet or gets hit with routine restroom cleaners, which is why enamelled wood seats crack at the hinge posts and plastic ones usually do not. The seat weighs 3.754 pounds, so it is a lighter plastic seat rather than a heavy molded wood one.

Not with this one alone. The Cardiff 5257A65MT is elongated only, so any round front bowls in the property need a round seat. Where the bowls are all elongated, ordering one color across the property works cleanly, White covers most commercial grade china and is the 5257A65MT.020 part number.
