American Standard Transitional Slow-Close Elongated Toilet Seat - AMS-5503A00B

Yes, in most cases. The 5503A00B mounts to a conventional elongated bowl with the standard two hole pattern and bottom mount hardware, and that pattern is the same across brands, so it is not restricted to American Standard china. Where it will not work is a bowl with a non standard hole spacing or a proprietary seat mount, which some one piece and European style bowls use.

Bottom mounting hardware is included with the 5503A00B, so nothing extra is needed for a standard two-hole bowl. Bottom mount means the fasteners are tightened from underneath the bowl deck, which is what most one piece and skirted bowls require, and it gives a cleaner hinge with no exposed nuts on top. Plan on being able to reach under the back of the bowl during install.

Two: White and Linen. The White is ordered as 5503A00B.020 and the Linen as 5503A00B.222. American Standard fixture colors are matched across the line, so if the bowl is an American Standard in White or Linen the seat will match the china rather than sit slightly off tone the way a generic white seat can.

Slow close is the main reason to spec the 5503A00B over a plain hinge seat. The lid and ring drop under damping instead of slamming, which is what kills hinges and chips china over time in high turnover units. It is built on a polypropylene plastic seat, which cleans with standard bathroom chemicals and does not swell like a wood core seat in a humid bath. Worth noting for spec: American Standard classes this seat as residential, so for heavy public restroom traffic a commercial open front seat is the right call instead.

American Standard lists the 5503A00B as a residential product. It is a closed front seat with a lid, which suits apartments, hotel guest baths, offices, and single occupancy restrooms. For a public or institutional restroom where code calls for an open front seat with no cover, this is not the part, and you want a commercial open front seat instead.
