American Standard 1660604.002 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the American Standard Fluent 1660604 showerhead come with a shower arm and flange?
No. The Fluent 7-inch fixed showerhead ships as the showerhead only, so you supply the shower arm and escutcheon. On a retrofit where the existing arm is sound and the threads are clean, that is usually all you need; on new construction budget for an arm and flange per opening.
2) What is the flow rate of the American Standard Fluent fixed showerhead, and will it meet a 2.5 gpm spec?
Maximum flow is 2.5 gpm (9.5 L/min), which is the standard federal maximum for showerheads. If your project spec calls for a lower-flow head, such as the 1.8 or 2.0 gpm rates some jurisdictions and green programs require, this one will not meet it.
3) Will the Fluent showerhead keep a steady spray when water pressure fluctuates in a multi-story building?
It has a pressure-compensating flow control device, so the spray holds its rate as supply pressure varies, for example when other fixtures on the stack are drawn at the same time. That is the reason this head reads well in apartments and hotels where pressure moves through the day.
4) What finish does the American Standard Fluent 7-inch showerhead come in?
Chrome, ordered as part number 1660604.002. It is the single finish offered on this head, so if you are standardizing a building on brushed nickel or matte black you will need a different model to match.
5) Is a 7-inch fixed showerhead too large for a standard shower stall?
The Fluent head measures 7 inches across the face. That is a wide face for a fixed head, so check clearance in a compact stall or a tub surround with a low arm, and confirm the spray pattern will not overshoot a shower curtain. In a standard 36-inch or larger stall with a normal arm height it is not a problem.
6) Is this a fixed showerhead or a handheld unit?
Fixed. The Fluent 1660604 mounts to the shower arm and stays put, with no hose, cradle or diverter. For an accessible unit or one a housekeeping crew can aim, you want a handshower on a slide bar or hose instead.
7) How hard is this showerhead to maintain in a hard water building?
American Standard calls out the Fluent head as easy to clean, which on a fixed head of this style means wiping mineral buildup off the face rather than dismantling it. In hard water properties plan on that wipe-down as part of routine unit turns to keep the spray even.
