American Standard 9035074.002 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Spectra 7-inch showerhead hold pressure in a building with inconsistent water pressure?
It has a pressure compensating flow device, which holds a consistent flow across a wide pressure range. That matters in multi-family and hotel risers where pressure swings floor to floor, since the spray stays comparable between units.
2) Is the American Standard Spectra fixed showerhead a 2.5 gpm head, and can I use it where a low-flow head is required?
It is rated 2.5 gpm (9.5 L/min), which is the maximum flow allowed by federal standard, not a low-flow head. If your jurisdiction or project spec calls for 1.8 or 2.0 gpm, such as California or Colorado multi-family work, this head will not meet that requirement and you need a lower-rated model.
3) Does this Spectra showerhead thread onto a standard shower arm?
Yes. It is a fixed wall-mount showerhead that threads onto a standard 1/2-inch NPT shower arm, the same connection used by essentially every residential and commercial shower arm in North America. No arm change is needed to swap an existing head for it.
4) What spray settings does the American Standard Spectra 7-inch fixed showerhead have?
Four separate spray functions. Drench is a soaking spray with full body coverage, Sensitive is a fine soft spray, Jet gives targeted coverage, and Massage is a pulsating spray. You change function at the head itself, so no valve work is involved in a retrofit.
5) Is this a fixed head or a handheld, and which should I spec for a rental unit?
The Spectra 7-Inch is a fixed head only, no hose and no slide bar. For apartment and hotel turnovers a fixed head is the usual choice: nothing to walk off, no hose to leak at the connection, and one part to stock. Spec a handheld instead where you need accessible or assisted bathing.
6) Does the Spectra 7-inch showerhead include a shower arm and flange?
It is sold as the showerhead only. If you are roughing in new or the existing arm is corroded or the wrong projection, order the arm and escutcheon separately. On a straight head swap you reuse the arm in the wall and just need fresh thread sealant tape.
7) What finish does the American Standard 9035074 showerhead come in?
Chrome, ordered as part number 9035074.002. American Standard states the finish is scratch and tarnish resistant, which is what you want when housekeeping is wiping heads down on a regular cycle.
