American Standard 9038074.243 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the American Standard Spectra 7-inch fixed showerhead meet WaterSense and California CEC flow rules?
Yes. The Spectra Fixed 7-inch head runs at 1.8 gpm (6.8 L/min) and is listed as WaterSense and CEC compliant, so it satisfies the 1.8 gpm ceiling California and other low-flow jurisdictions enforce on new showerheads. That makes it usable on multifamily and hospitality retrofits where a 2.5 gpm head would fail inspection.
2) Can I swap this onto my existing shower arm without opening the wall?
Yes. The Spectra Fixed 7-inch is a fixed head that threads onto a standard 1/2-inch shower arm, so it is a straight unscrew-and-replace job with thread tape. No valve work, no tile cut, no rough-in change. That is what makes it practical for unit-by-unit turns.
3) Will water pressure swings in an older building make this showerhead weak?
The Spectra Fixed head has a pressure compensating flow device built in, so it holds a consistent flow across a wide pressure range. In a building where pressure drops when other fixtures run, output stays steadier than a head with a plain restrictor washer.
4) How many spray settings does the Spectra Fixed 7-inch showerhead have, and what are they?
Four. Drench is a soaking spray with full body coverage, Sensitive is a fine soft spray, Jet gives targeted coverage, and Massage is a pulsating spray. All four run at the same 1.8 gpm rate, so switching modes does not change water use.
5) What finishes does the American Standard Spectra Fixed showerhead come in, and can I match them across a whole property?
Five finishes: Chrome (9038074.002), Matte Black (9038074.243), Legacy Bronze (9038074.278), Brushed Nickel (9038074.295), and Brushed Cool Sunrise (9038074.GN0). Ordering by the full part number with the finish suffix is how you keep a multi-unit job consistent. The finishes are scratch and tarnish resistant.
6) Should I pick a fixed showerhead like the Spectra or a handheld for a rental unit?
A fixed head like the Spectra Fixed 7-inch is the lower-maintenance choice for rentals: no hose to kink, split, or walk off, and one connection point to the shower arm instead of three. Go handheld instead when the unit needs accessible bathing or when tenants need to rinse the tub surround. The Spectra covers the multi-spray angle with its four functions, which is usually why people reach for a handheld in the first place.
7) Is this showerhead meant for residential or commercial use?
American Standard classes the Spectra Fixed 7-inch head as a residential product in its Spectra family. It gets specified plenty in apartments, condos and hotel guest baths, but for a high-abuse institutional shower room, a vandal-resistant commercial head is the better call.
