American Standard Spectra Fixed Traditional 7-1/4-Inch 1.8 gpm/6.8 L/min Water-Saving Fixed Showerhead - AMS-9138073

The Spectra Fixed Traditional showerhead flows at 1.8 gpm (6.8 L/min), which is below the 2.5 gpm federal maximum and meets the tighter 1.8 gpm threshold used by water-conservation programs. A pressure compensating flow device holds that rate steady across a wide inlet pressure range, so the spray does not fall off on low-pressure floors or spike on high-pressure ones.

Six finishes: Chrome (9138073.002), Polished Nickel (.013), Matte Black (.243), Legacy Bronze (.278), Brushed Nickel (.295), and Brushed Cool Sunrise (.GN0). All are scratch and tarnish resistant. If you are standardizing a building, the suffix after the base number 9138073 is the finish code, and American Standard uses those same codes across the Spectra family so trim and valves can be matched.

This is the showerhead only. It threads onto an existing shower arm using the standard 1/2 inch NPT connection that US shower arms use, so a straight swap on an existing arm needs nothing but thread sealant tape. If you are roughing in new or replacing a corroded arm, order the arm and flange separately in a matching finish.

Four separate sprays: Drench for a soaking full-body pattern, Sensitive for a fine soft spray, Jet for targeted coverage, and Massage for a pulsating spray. All four run at the same 1.8 gpm rate, so switching modes changes the pattern, not the water use.

Yes. The Spectra Fixed Traditional mounts on a metal ball joint, so the head pivots on the shower arm to angle the spray up, down, or to the side. Metal rather than plastic at the joint is what keeps it holding an angle over time in a heavily used bathroom.

The face is 7-1/4 inches across, and the packaged part measures 8.437 high by 7.937 long by 4.062 wide inches at 1.08 lbs. On a standard upward-angled shower arm the head sits close to the arm, so the thing to check in a tight stall is the swing of the ball joint against the glass panel, not the head diameter itself.

American Standard classifies the Spectra Fixed Traditional as a residential fixture. It is commonly used in multi-family and hospitality baths because the 1.8 gpm flow helps water budgets and the finishes resist tarnish, but for high-abuse or vandal-prone public restrooms a commercial-rated showerhead with a tamper-resistant flow restrictor is the better call.

The Spectra Fixed Traditional uses a pressure compensating flow device, which meters flow to a consistent 1.8 gpm rather than simply choking the outlet. That keeps the spray consistent across a wide pressure range instead of dropping off at the top of a building. If you want the most forceful feel at low pressure, run the Jet setting, which concentrates the same volume into targeted streams.
