American Standard 953963-0070A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the American Standard 953963 handle extension actually do on a faucet?
It is a faucet repair part, not a complete handle. The extension rides between the valve stem and the handle to make up the distance, which is what you need when a handle sits too low or will not reach the stem after a valve or trim change. American Standard lists it under repair parts for faucet applications, and it is a genuine American Standard component rather than an aftermarket copy.
2) What part number do I order for the American Standard handle extension?
Order by manufacturer part number 953963-0070A. It ships in a single configuration with no finish applied, so there is no plating or color choice to specify, which is normal for a concealed extension that sits behind the handle.
3) Is the American Standard handle extension finished to match a chrome or brushed nickel faucet?
No. The 953963 extension is supplied unfinished, so it is not meant to be a visible trim piece. If a customer is looking at exposed metal after the repair, the wrong part is in the stack, or the decorative handle or escutcheon is missing.
4) Is the American Standard 953963 extension suitable for commercial washrooms or just residential faucets?
It is catalogued only as a repair part rather than split into residential and commercial lines, so the deciding factor is the faucet it goes into, not the building. If the American Standard faucet in a school or hotel washroom takes this extension, it is the correct part; the part itself draws no line between the two.
