American Standard M970471-2430A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the American Standard M970471 a replacement handle only, or does it include the valve?
M970471 is a handle kit, the trim you grip and the parts that mount it. It is not a valve or a cartridge, so if the leak is coming from the stem or the water will not shut off, the handle kit is not the fix. Order it when the handle itself is broken, stripped, or you are changing the finish on an otherwise working American Standard faucet.
2) How do I make sure an American Standard handle kit fits my existing faucet?
Match it by the American Standard part number, not by looks. M970471 is a specific American Standard handle kit, and American Standard handles are model-specific, so the number stamped or listed for your faucet model is what decides fit. If your faucet documentation calls for M970471, pick the suffix for the finish you want; if it calls for a different M-number, that is the kit to order instead.
3) What finishes does the American Standard M970471 handle kit come in?
Six finishes on the M970471 handle kit: chrome (M970471-0020A), polished nickel (M970471-0130A), matte black (M970471-2430A), legacy bronze (M970471-2780A), brushed nickel (M970471-2950A), and brushed cool sunrise (M970471-GN00A). If you are matching existing trim in a unit, order by the full suffixed number rather than the base M970471, since the suffix is what sets the finish.
4) Can I use the American Standard M970471 handle kit to change the finish of a faucet without replacing the whole faucet?
That is exactly what a handle kit is for. Swapping to the matte black (M970471-2430A) or brushed nickel (M970471-2950A) kit changes the handle finish while the existing valve stays in the wall or deck. Bear in mind it only changes the handle, so any spout or escutcheon in the old finish stays as it is unless you change those too.
5) Can a property manager standardize handle finishes across multiple units with the M970471 kit?
Yes, as long as the units use American Standard faucets that take the M970471 handle. The same kit is offered in all six finishes, so a chrome building and a matte black renovation package can both be served from one part number with a different suffix. It keeps one line item on the order instead of chasing separate handle SKUs per finish.
