American Standard 738493-0070A – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the American Standard 738493 spring arm assembly handed, and does the left hand version matter?
Handing matters on this one. The 738493 arm assembly is the left hand spring arm, so it is not interchangeable with a right hand arm. Order the left hand part only if the arm on your unit mounts on the left side as you face it.
2) What is the American Standard 738493 part actually used for?
It is a toilet repair part, specifically a left hand spring arm assembly. You buy it to replace a broken or worn arm on an existing American Standard toilet rather than as part of a new fixture.
3) What is the manufacturer part number for the American Standard left hand spring arm assembly?
Order it as American Standard 738493-0070A. The 0070A suffix is the no-finish version, which is how this arm assembly ships.
4) I manage several buildings. Can I stock the 738493 arm as a standard toilet repair item?
It is a single-configuration part, one left hand spring arm with no finish or size choices, so stocking it is straightforward. Just remember it covers the left hand side only, so a facility with both handings needs the matching right hand arm as well.
5) Does the American Standard 738493 spring arm come in a chrome or polished finish?
No. The 738493 arm assembly is supplied with no finish, since it is an internal repair component rather than an exposed trim piece. There is no chrome or brushed option to specify.
