American Standard Left-Hand Trip Lever - AMS-7381004

The 7381004 left-hand trip lever is built for American Standard Colony tanks 4192A and 4192B. If your tank is stamped with one of those numbers (the number is usually cast or printed inside the tank near the water line), this is the correct replacement. Colony tanks that carry a different model number take a different lever, so check the tank stamp before ordering.

Left hand only. The 7381004 mounts on the left side of the tank front, which is the standard side on American Standard Colony 4192A and 4192B tanks. If the handle on the tank you are replacing comes out of the right side or the side face, this lever will not line up with the hole.

The kit is complete for the handle side of the job: handle, mounting nut, and arm. Nothing else is needed to swap the lever itself. It does not include a flapper or flush valve, so if the tank is also leaking past the seal, order that separately.

Two finishes: chrome (part 7381004-0020A) and white (part 7381004-0200A). Color has to be specified on the order, so pick the one that matches the trim on the rest of the tank. White is the usual match for a white Colony tank with a plastic handle; chrome is the pick when the rest of the bathroom trim is polished metal.

A handle that turns freely and never lifts the flapper is almost always a broken lever arm or a stripped handle, not a bad flush valve. On a Colony 4192A or 4192B tank, the 7381004 kit replaces the handle, nut, and arm together, which is the whole failure point. Replace the flush valve only if the tank is also running continuously or losing water with the handle untouched.

The 7381004 kit ships with its own mounting nut, so the correct nut for this lever is in the box. Tank handle nuts on toilets are commonly left-hand thread, meaning you turn clockwise to loosen when working from inside the tank, which is worth knowing before you crack the old one trying to remove it the usual way.
