American Standard 3453001.02 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the American Standard Madera 3453001 bowl come with a flush valve or a tank?
Neither. The Madera 3453001 is a flushometer bowl, so it needs a separate flushometer valve, and the bowl has a 1-1/2 inch (38 mm) top inlet spud on the back. It also ships less seat, so a seat is a separate order. Plan on the bowl, a flushometer valve matched to a 1-1/2 inch spud, and a seat to finish the job.
2) What rough-in does the Madera back spud elongated bowl need?
It works at either a 10 inch (254 mm) or 12 inch (305 mm) rough-in, which covers most commercial retrofits without moving the waste line.
3) Is this Madera bowl ADA height?
No. The Madera 3453001 sits at a standard 15 inch (381 mm) rim height, which is the typical height for general-use and children's-adjacent commercial restrooms. If you need an accessible-height fixture, you want a 16-1/2 to 17 inch rim bowl instead, not this one.
4) Will the Madera 3453001 work with a 1.28 gpf flushometer valve?
Yes. The bowl is a High Efficiency Toilet rated to operate anywhere from 1.1 gpf to 1.6 gpf (4.2 to 6.0 Lpf), so a 1.28 gpf valve falls inside its range. That range is also why it suits water-conservation retrofits where you swap the valve rather than the fixture.
5) How well does this bowl clear waste in a high-traffic restroom?
It carries a Maximum Performance (MaP) score of 1,000 grams at 1.1 to 1.6 gpf, which is the top of the MaP scale, and it uses a direct-fed siphon jet with a 2-1/8 inch (54 mm) fully glazed trapway. For schools, stadiums, and other heavy-use facilities, that combination is what keeps callbacks down.
6) Is the Madera 3453001 floor mounted or wall hung?
Floor mounted. It bolts to the floor over the closet flange and takes its supply from a back spud flushometer above, so the wall only carries the valve and supply, not the fixture weight. If your chase is set up for a wall-hung carrier, this is the wrong bowl.
7) What does EverClean actually do on an American Standard Madera bowl?
EverClean is an antimicrobial surface fired into the china that inhibits growth of the bacteria, mold, and mildew that cause stains and odors. It does not replace cleaning, but in a restroom on a light janitorial rotation it slows down staining between services.
8) What finish and part number should I specify for this Madera flushometer bowl?
It is sold in white, ordered as American Standard part number 3453001.02. Specifying the elongated back spud version matters, front spud and wall-hung Madera models are separate fixtures and will not drop into the same rough-in.
9) Will this bowl sweat in an unconditioned restroom?
The Madera 3453001 includes a condensation channel, which catches sweat on the china rather than letting it run onto the floor. That is worth having in humid or unconditioned spaces where cold supply water is common.
